NORTHERN LEADERS’ NEGLIGENCE TO EDUCATION: IMPEDIMENTS TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

It is of no doubt that the current state of insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria could be traced to the nonchalant attitude of the northern leaders to education. Since independent, history had revealed that most of the rulers of this country were north-born Nigerians. In their quest to earnest a good turn to their region, they believed that creation of more states in the northern part will stretch them an edge over other region in making any decision in whatever any system of government that would be practice in Nigeria then, even in the future because of the clouts of the majority. They were also of the opinion that population by state is the catalyst for regional integration and national development. Many of these former north-born leaders out looked that the future of Nigeria and its good governance cannot but achieved without the chockfull support of the north because of their egotistical xenophobic states creation. When other regions were striving for western education because they comprehend it as a veritable tool for self- fruition, an inexorable inheritance for their unborn generation, an indispensable to national development and an insignia to global exemplary, the northerners give much credence to agriculture solely as a way of worthwhile living even when they have first class machineries to western education as they occupied most public offices in the past and even at present. We could say that the “time and chance” that those northern leaders have, has done more harm than good to the northerners because they only build a house for people who cannot dwell in the house except in the forest, people whose lifestyles were characterized with an insurmountable toil just to mention but a few, as a result of the way they were nurtured and the consequence of their environmental flaws. The current insurgent in the country which arose from the Boko-haram terrorists are fundamentally the shortcomings of illiteracy of the northerners. We could figure out that the founder of the dreaded group is a scholar and well-educated, but if one may ask, how many operations did he carried out before his demise? How many members of the group have western education as the founder? These and many other questions vindicates that he (the founder) used his intelligence from western education to wheedle the people from his region for his political plus. The acclaimed now leader of the sect Shekau and other war-front members, only went to Islamic school while their bigwigs who are product of western education are savoring with their family. One could imagine the demands of this group of people to indoctrinate and monopolize one religion in a country of over 150 million people, saying no to western education, if we may ask, those guns and bombs they used for operations are they not from western education? One could say that this group of people had lost their sanity, they have contacted psychological virus and had been extremely brainwashed with a certain believe of no existence here on earth. We could not really blame them as they were born by some parents who also don’t have access to the road that link to “ability to differentiate between right and wrong” under different situations. ‘He, who has the light, let him show to others”. That negligence of the former north-born Nigerians leader to education in those 60s-90s, has now become a problem to the whole world, cutting short the lives of many and rendering many hopeless. Whatever has a beginning must surely have an end, with God and the interventions of the international communities, Boko-haram uprising in our dear country will soon become a history.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
